Techno Manager or Business Technologist?
September 08, 06 by BharaniBefore MBA
Techno Manager: A Technical person or a programmer who was managing projects.
After MBA
Business Technologist: A Business person who applies his business skills in Technology companies.
Evolution:
Programmer –> Techno Manager –> Business Technologist –> General Manager. This is the evolution through which Technical skills erode and Business skills grow stronger…This is the evolution from “Details” to “Big picture”…This is the evolution from “Devil” to “God”…This is the evolution from 6 figure to 8 figure….Well, forget it ![]()

You can forget about devil to god, but I don’t see why 8 figure salaries cannot be reached.

I guess this MBA Expresspower seems to be a bit overestimated or overevaluated..whatever you term it. I guess a good techie can be inculcated business sense just by having in-house or short term programs rather than losing them in their pursuit for an MBA.

Why should techie skills erode? Maybe you should say it like techie skills take a backseat.
I also feel this is the stage where you move from cursing your manager for not knowing stuff to getting cursed for not knowing the ground level things.

How is the career path to become a CIO of a Bank or an Automobile firm or any no IT firm looked up on by MBA grads…It can be a legitimate IT role compared to the service provider role…instead of working for a client and do what the client wants , you can innovate for yourself…what do you say ?

EU: God is in Big picture, Devil is in details…So the second statement was a kind of extension of the first…Eight figure salaries can be reached..but how fast will be the question
Rajat: You are right in terms of overevaluation or Hype…
Ramki: In the beginning it is \”Backseat\”…gradually it will become the last seat! \”cursed by team members\”…you got the pulse right
Jeeva: Very true. That career path is infact looked upon very much.
